What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state.

All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis. A trained hypnotist will help you to enter a state of focused relaxation and teach you techniques for self-hypnosis.  Have you ever been driving your car and not remembered making any of the turns yet, you arrived safely and to the correct destination?  The ability to be very focused yet, relaxed at the same time is a form of hypnosis.  We naturally slip in and out of trance states all day.  Athletes call it being in the Zone.

Daydreaming can be a form of a hypnotic state.  Even watching television or getting lost in a good book can transform us into a trance state.  Have you ever felt cold when the characters on T.V. were cold?  Certainly, we all have felt hungry when our favorite food commercial is displayed that is why billions are spent every year on advertising.  These are just some examples of hypnotic suggestions.

A trained hypnotist can use these trances or relaxed states to help you make the positive changes you desire in your life.

Hypnosis is not sleep.

Hypnosis is focused relaxation.  Most clients remember everything that happens during a session, because they are awake and feeling very calm and comfortable.  If a client is so relaxed they begin falling asleep the hypnotist will simply give them an instruction to keep them relaxed and awake.

The hypnotist does not control you.

The hypnotist cannot make you do anything against your moral code.  They also can not make you quack like a duck or cluck like a chicken.

You cannot get stuck in hypnosis.

While clients are under hypnosis they are still awake and aware of their surroundings.  In order to stay in hypnosis the hypnotist must continue to give suggestions otherwise the client will simply wake up feeling refreshed.

Why does Hypnosis work?

Hypnosis gets you out of your own way

  1. People get caught up in their conscious mind and believe the negative thinking… If someone said, “Don’t think of pink elephants,” it is very difficult not to imagine pink elephants.  Good coaches know it is easy to help athletes achieve peek performance by focusing on positive self-talk.  Too many times people who want to quit smoking, or change a habit, hear that it is so hard…eventually they believe it is too hard and are defeated before they even start.  Hypnosis can enable people to reach their goals with step by step proven methods.

  2. A trained hypnotist will help you to think in the positive.  Comfort control rather than pain management is something our minds can understand.

Good coaches know it is better to say “Do well” rather than “Don’t screw up.”

A trained hypnotist will help you to think in the positive.  Comfort control rather than pain management.

Hypnosis allows you to bypass the critical element.

  1. Your conscious mind, the one that worries and thinks tends to produce negative thoughts. It seems to be easier for most of us to think about the causes for failure rather than the reasons for success.  From an early age we may have been told we were stupid or lazy and those hurtful remarks have earned a place in our minds even though we are quite energetic or very smart.
